Past tournament chairpersons to make surprise donations to local nonprofits
Each year, THE PLAYERS Championship’s Red Coats (past tournament volunteer chairpersons) conduct surprise visits to nonprofit organizations throughout Northeast Florida to present charitable donations as part of their Red Coat Grants.
This year, the Red Coats will be spreading holiday cheer to several local nonprofits with surprise donations next week, including Gabriel House of Care, Angelwood and Sanctuary on 8th Street. These charities are three of 51 total recipients of Red Coat Grants this year.

Monday, December 6 – Sharing a Meal with Gabriel House of Care
- When: 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
- Where: 4599 Worrall Way, Jacksonville, FL 32224
- What: The Red Coats will serve dinner to the residents at Gabriel House of Care, which provides affordable lodging in a “Community of Healing” to adult cancer and transplant patients and their caregivers who come to Jacksonville for life-saving treatments and procedures. While sharing a meal with the residents, the Red Coats will surprise the organization with a $2,000 grant to support its services and programs, specifically: funding to allow patients to stay longer while receiving treatments; support for its Community of Healing programming, which helps patients and caregivers in reducing stress; lodging for its veteran residents.

- Details: Due to its immune compromised guests, Gabriel House of Care has requested that

Tuesday, December 7 – Hot Cocoa Hour at Angelwood
- When: 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.
- Where: 11251 Phillips Parkway Dr. E., Jacksonville, FL 32256
- What: The Red Coats will surprise Angelwood with a $7,500 grant to support the construction of a coffee café, a brand new program at Angelwood, which serves children, adults, seniors and families living with intellectual and developmental differences. The new coffee café will help Angelwood’s program participants gain marketable vocational skills, such as handling cash and credit transactions, customer service, communication and interpersonal skills with peers and customers, as well as how to take instruction and direction from a supervisor. The Red Coats will come with supplies for the café, including hot cocoa that they will serve to program participants, staff, and volunteers.

Thursday, December 9 – Gingerbread Houses at Sanctuary on 8th Street
- When: 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.
- Where: 120 E. 8th St., Jacksonville, FL 32206
- What: Participants from Sanctuary on 8th Street – which expands opportunities for children and families in need through education, social services, recreation, and the arts – are looking forward to learning which of them will be declared the champion of the gingerbread decorating contest, hosted by the Red Coats. Earlier this month, they received gingerbread kits and collectively worked on their houses, to be judged by the Red Coats. While the participants are expecting a ribbon and recognition for their artistic efforts after the judging concludes, they will instead be surprised with a $7,500 grant to purchase playground equipment for the program’s new community center.
